Ernesettle and the Incineration of Waste Issue
Background to the Ernesettle Waste Issue All councils are faced with the issue of waste. Plymouth City Council, Devon County Council and Torbay Council have joined together as the South West Devon Waste Partnership to work on the problem. SWDWP is Plymouth based at the Civic Centre Plymouth. info@swdwp.co.uk. An energy from Waste facility, EfW, looks like being built at Ernesettle or Coypool but may be at Wrangaton or Lee Mill. There has been many, many objections to this Incinerator at Ernesettle from Plymouth people and Saltash communities, but they have been largely ignored. A new group has now been formed called STIFLE. (Stop The Incinerator Fouling Land at Ernesettle), and the companies tendering for the Incinerator will have some contentious issue to face up to, from this group. This website gives information on these issues.
Defra have given the grant to Plymouth for developing an energy from waste facility. Plymouth are saying Ernesettle or Coypool. There are little or no objections to Coypool. There are many and always have been objections to Ernesettle. The waste plan now goes out to tender and there will be many objecting to any Ernesettle sitings. The communities of Saltash, Pillaton, St Budeaux, Honicknowle and beyond are now more informed about these issues. If we live in a democracy, then public concern should be acted upon and not sidestepped by the people the public put in office.
